I’m Rita Gonzalez. I was born and raised in Harlem, NYC and came to CSSW shortly after graduating from Barnard College in 2019, where I earned a degree in American Studies with a focus on Race & Ethnicity. Having attended all-girls school K-12 and then women’s college, advocacy for women’s rights is deeply entrenched in my mind and soul. My greatest passion is working towards the advancement of social and racial justice. I have a specific desire to work on policies that will impact most positively young women of color, as racial justice, reproductive rights and women’s rights are some of my greatest passions. Ultimately, as my career continues, I intend to combine this interest in improving opportunities for teenagers and young-adults with my passion for racial justice, by advocating consistently to see the needs of these individuals reflected in widespread government policies. One of my main goals is to create policies that promote an equal education system that is actually beneficial and fruitful for all children. In the words of Malcolm X, a real revolution, “means the destroying of an old system, and its replacement with a new system.”
